Vehicle clutter happens to the best of us, but there should be some valuables among the clutter, such as your roadside emergency kit. It should contain everything you need for minor mechanical and health emergencies. Here are our LUKE FRUIA MOTORS team's recommendations.
Breakdowns 101
Minor accidents, battery death and flat tires rank high among the causes of roadside breakdowns and emergencies. Minor accidents may require first responders. Most other breakdowns you can handle on your own or at least be prepared for someone else to help you handle:
- Jumper cables
- Properly inflated spare tire
- Tripod jack, wheel wrench, spare tire
- Multifunctional tool kit
- Reflective vehicle triangles
- Fire extinguisher
- Duct tape
- Cat litter (for wheel traction)
- Windshield washer fluid
- Shovel
- Snow brush
Minor Medical Emergencies
In anticipation of minor medical emergencies, keep a small but high-quality first aid kit on hand:
- Bandages, gauze, tape
- Aspirin, hydrocortisone, antibiotic cream
- Thermometer, tweezers, scissors
- Cold compresses, nonlatex gloves
Awaiting Roadside Assistance
If you have to wait for roadside assistance or go and get some, it's helpful if your roadside emergency kit contains:
- Rain poncho
- Reflective vest
- Warm clothing
- Warm blanket
- Compass
- Flashlight
- Car charger for your cell phone
- Drinking water
- Protein bars, candy, unsalted nuts, dried fruit
